Marilee's July Client of the month is gorgeous pinup, cover girl, and calendar beauty Bluegrass Kas! She kindly shared some fond memories of good times with Marilee, including some very special firsts!
I'll never forget nervously showing up to Marilee’s home studio and being greeted by a custom "Welcome Kas" sign by her front door. This small gesture meant so much to me, it also showed me that this day was just as special to Marilee as it was to me! It set the tone for what was to come as soon as I walked in the door. Marilee opened the door and greeted me with a huge smile on her face and a big warm hug. It felt like being reunited with a long lost friend.
Her place was incredible; decorated from top to bottom with the most exquisite vintage decor. I have seen pictures of vintage aesthetic homes but never actually been inside one, so this was a real treat!
Marilee took me to her upstairs studio where she had the most gorgeous vanity and wardrobe setup. I felt so feminine and beautiful! I quickly got dressed and went down to the studio to create some magic. I was familiar with Marilee’s incredible art so I knew I had to bring my A-game - but my nervousness was at an all time high!
This was my first time shooting 1950s glamour. Marilee made me feel so comfortable! Between giving posing tips, cracking jokes, and getting to know each other, we both had a blast. The shoot was a breeze. Like the old saying goes, "Time flies when you’re having fun"! Before I knew it, we had finished the glam shoot and transitioned to a 1960s lingerie look. After a quick wardrobe change, we shot a '60s femme fatale look in her vintage living room. Little did she know, but this was also my first lingerie shoot! Once again, we were breaking barriers together! Overall, we had an incredible time and got some killer images!
A few weeks later, I get notified that Marilee choose my glamour picture for the cover of her 2021 calendar! We also made the cover of Retro Lovely Chocolate Cheesecake magazine! I was over the moon as these represented two firsts for me in my pinup modeling journey!
Marilee and I went on to shoot several other projects together. One shoot in particular was the highlight of my pinup career: a feature in a nationally-published magazine, Car Kulture Deluxe! I remember all the days I used to peruse that magazine at the grocery store and admiring all the beautiful cars and models. I never imagined one day I’d pick it up and see my face! As thrilling as that was, the greatest part was the memories of working with Marilee (and my dear friend Molly!) to create some beautiful images with a sage-green 1940s truck, against the backdrop of a historic hotel, with the warm California sunset gracing our set.
Marilee has been there with me for many firsts in my pinup journey! Her ability to make me feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful is incredible and that’s what makes working with her so fun and easy. Her images are exceptionally unique, bright, and feature vivid colors and unmatched creativity! She has the uncanny ability to capture the energetic essence of the moment and bring it to life through her lens.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but her pictures always leave me speechless!
